Early Harvesting

So, we've been able to harvest a few things from the garden. Spinach, radish, and lettuce. The zucchini, corn, beets, and pumpkins are taking off like crazy, and the beans are coming in nicely. Here's a glance!

The Garden

There is a family garden out on County Road 19. Five households are planting, weeding, watering, laughing, harvesting and cooking with this space. Five women, five men, 4.5 kids, at least five dogs, three bee hives. Engineers, moms, a criminal analyst, dads, carpenters, an occupational therapist, some teachers and pastors. Lovers of food, nature, and people; all trying to live life in the way of Jesus.

The garden sits on the old stable area of Big John the draught horse. The space is divided into five areas, one for each household. The soil ranges from very sandy to mostly clay. The best part is the abundance of manure...hence Big John's Bounty. (Props to my friend Thom for the name suggestion. Brilliant!)
